Product Description

The SportShell Convertible for iPad offers 4 cases in 1 - the maximum versatility you can find in a single iPad case! By using an interchangeable parts design, the Convertible functions as: a hard shell case that protects the back, top and sides, a photo frame case that allows you to show off photos or other personalized graphic designs, a stand case for displaying or using the iPad at an angle, and a hand strap case that can be used either horizontally or vertically for a better grip. The smooth, rubberized paint finish feels great in your hands, and through a unique patent-pending design that utilizes interchangeable parts, the case maintains a minimalist, thin look. The SportShell Convertible doesn't just offer tremendous value - it offers multiple solutions with a single product.

"Beware, there are two very different versions of this shell" 2010-08-04
By Bob Kalus (Seattle, WA USA)
I read the reviews online and was puzzled at the disparity. I went to look at the case at the Apple store, where the case was available for $50, too much in my view, but I thought it was quite good. Ordered it from Amazon for $31, and ended up with a quite different case. The plastic is hard and brittle, unlike the one in the store that was more rubbery. Also, the strap, which in the store version was made of the same sturdy rubbery material as the case, was this time something that hearkened back to 15 year old Fruit of the Looms: a stretchy, thin, floppy piece of garbage which would not keep a 1 oz pair of underwear around my waist, let alone prevent me from dropping an $800 piece of hardware. The one I got is junk, I'm afraid, so still in the market for a reasonably priced shell that will make it less likely for me to drop the ipad.

"fantastic case - especially love strap on back" 2010-07-02

I'm reading all these other reviews and wondering if we have the same holder. The plastic doesn't feel cheap, the legs don't feel like they are "about to break off", both back panels fit perfectly, the strap on the back is secure and offers just the right amount of resistance, and the cut-outs for charger, etc. are perfect - I certainly do NOT have to remove the case to charge or sync.

True that it takes a little bit of force to open the legs, but that's fine - I don't want them flopping around.

The only problem I've had with it is it's a giant pain to remove (I exchanged my iPad for a different one). The trick is to remove the long side first. On the plus side, I don't have to worry that my iPad will fall out of it.

The strap on the back is especially wonderful. Before I had it, reading ebooks was tricky because my hands would be on the front and I often accidentally turned the page. Also, with the strap I feel I have a safer grip on it - don't worry about dropping it. I was in an Apple Store with this holder recently and one of the sales people came over and asked me where I got it because he liked the strap and wanted one, too.

I also like the easel legs - good for reading books while I eat. It's very stable on a flat surface.

This is a great holder - I don't know why all the complaints. Maybe I was just lucky to get a perfect one or maybe they corrected manufacturing problems at some point - don't know.

 "Not what I expected" 2010-06-24

The description sounds great but the picture is deceptive. It looked to me like there was a folio style face cover. There isn't. So while this case gives you many options for viewing, there is no screen cover for transport protection.

"Must Remove Case to Charge iPad" 2010-06-09
By Chris Paul (Washington, DC)
This is just an awful product. The cut-out for the charger is too small, which means you cannot charge the iPad with the Marware SportShell case on! You have to remove the case to charge the iPad, and it is almost impossible! I've already scratched my iPad in the process. Furthermore, this case made of very cheap plastic, and the design is so poor that it doesn't support the iPad when typing. Customer service at Mareware is even worse! Returning this for a refund today!

"Good Idea but very poor end product" 2010-06-05
By DWM
I like the functionality but 30 pin cut-out does not allow for a good connection for some of the apple cables and cannot connect the Apple iPad dock. I don't know about the keyboard dock since I didn't purchase it but one would think that this company would have done their research to ensure that at least the Apple products connect properly.
